We welcome international campers to our summer camps each year!

We work closely with a number of patient family groups and hospitals in the countries we serve, to liaise with medical staff and help identify children who will benefit most from their camp experience.

These groups support Barretstown financially and help to sponsor the children from each country, so that Barretstown can continue to honour our commitment to provide our vital service at no cost to the family.

We have skilled and trained volunteer interpreters and chaperones who speak fluent English and accompany the campers from their home country and during their stay at camp.

This international mix at camp, and the opportunity for campers to meet children in similar circumstances from other countries remains a highlight of our summer camp programs.

Below are a list of the organisations and patient groups we work with in each country.

Fundación Aladina

Address: C Tomás Bretón 50-52, Planta 3, 28045 Madrid

Fundación Aladina, www.aladina.org, is a private, non-profit organization created in 2005 with the purpose of helping children and teenagers suffering from cancer, and their families, by providing comprehensive support: material, psychological and emotional. Aladina’s work is carried out in public hospitals all over Spain.

Paco Arango, Fundación Aladina founder and president, was invited by Paul Newman to join the SeriousFun Children’s Network board. Fundación Aladina is Barretstown’s major funder in Spain, thus making it possible for Barretstown to welcome 120 children from Spain every year.

In recognition of the incredible support we receive from Fundacion Aladina and the difference it has made in the lives of so many Spanish children, Barretstown named the wing of Jim’s Place, our new building, as ‘The Aladina Centre’. This serves as both an activity area during camp and also the drop off point for children arriving at camp with their parents.
