Just before her fifth birthday, Aoife Lawless was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis (NF1), a rare condition which can cause tumours on any nerve ending in the body; in Aoife’s case, a tumour developed on her optic nerve. Around Christmas, her family received heartbreaking news: Aoife would need 84 weeks of chemotherapy to try to slow the tumour’s growth.
