The Magic of Barretstown Arrives to the United States!
Barretstown is a specially-designed camp in County Kildare, Ireland, that provides Therapeutic Recreation programs for children with serious and often life-threatening illnesses and their families. Barretstown is expanding it's reach further across the globe by opening an office in the U.S. this year.
From creating a referral program to send campers from the US to Barretstown's camp in Ireland, to providing opportunities for Summer Placements for US College students. We've got big plans...
A non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, the Foundation is based in Manhattan and is affiliated with Barretstown in Ireland.
Welcome to Camp
A brief insight of the magic of a trip to Barretstown
What is Barretstown?
Founded in 1994 by the late actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman, Barretstown is a member of the SeriousFun Children's Network, whose mission is to create opportunities for children and their families to reach beyond serious illness and discover joy, confidence and a new world of possibilities, always free of charge. Our skilled medical and activity staff are supported by over 2,000 volunteers each year. At Barretstown we run residential camps and programmes for children and their families affected by cancer and serious illness.
Want to come to camp?
Our mission is to support children and their families with serious illness across Ireland, Europe, and the United States. We work alongside US-based SeriousFun Children's Network sister-camps to refer kids from the US as campers to Barretstown.
Children traveling from abroad to Ireland to camp are accompanied from their country by trained chaperones and are supervised at all times. In Summer each child travels to camp completely free of charge!
College Summer Placements
We would like to make a number of places available for College students seeking summer placements in the non-profit sector. For successful applicants, Barretstown will provide an extraordinary life-changing summer placement with full room & board. During this summer placement students will learn the following skills:
• Leadership Skills
• Behaviour Support Training
• Communication Skills
• Role modeling for children, teens, and young adults
• Creating camp culture
• The power and value of volunteering.
