TY Residential Programme
A transformative residential experience designed to build confidence, leadership, and life skills while strengthening class bonds.
Barretstown’s residential TY programme has two options – a two day / one night or a 4-day/3-night, both offering students an exciting and enriching experience on our stunning 500-acre campus in Co. Kildare. Throughout the school year, TY groups stay in Paul’s Hideout, enjoy full board, and take part in a mix of engaging workshops, outdoor activities, and evening entertainment.
This programme is designed to help students develop key skills such as:
- Leadership
- Communication
- Decision-making
- Problem-solving
Through fun team-building activities and challenges, students will strengthen existing class bonds and gain insights into the vital work Barretstown does to support children and families affected by serious illness. As part of the programme, there is a fundraising request, which is an important element of the experience.
The programme aligns with the Department of Education’s criteria for Transition Year and has been carefully designed to support students’ personal growth and development. It is also approved by Gaisce – The President’s Award, allowing students to use their participation toward the Personal Skill and Community Involvement components of the Bronze Award, making their TY experience both meaningful and rewarding.
Ready to give your students a truly transformative TY experience? Contact us, as we’d love to chat about our two residential options, how we can tailor the programme to your school and help create unforgettable memories.

“All of the students really enjoyed their visit and were so lucky to get this opportunity, so I would certainly recommend it to other schools“
