We are delighted to say that our first HOP (Hospital Outreach Programme) took place in Cork University Hospital over the last few days. 7 very enthusiastic volunteers all who have previously volunteered at camp and live in the Cork area brought the magic of Barretstown to the beside by running Therapeutic Recreation activities in the hospital.
32 children took part in badge making, finger football, pipe cleaner hats, mask making, friendship bracelets, making tissue paper flower decorations, decorating strings of stars for around beds, board games, card games and the big hit of the day was bouncy ball making! The team were warmly welcomed by all the nurses and doctors, with one of the doctors commenting on there being a great buzz around the wards for the day.
The next HOP will take place in Cork in November.
Well done to all involved and it’s great to see HOP in action in Ireland.
