Barretstown is delighted to announce a new €1 million partnership with Lidl which will see the discount retailer choosing to support the magical work of the children’s charity for the next
three years.
A series of fundraising initiatives are planned over the next three years, including advertising support, frequent in-store promotions and mobilising its 3,200 employees across Ireland to create awareness and raise money.
As the first initiative to mark the launch of the partnership, Lidl will be hosting a ‘Bake-Off for Barretstown’ promotion in stores next week from Monday 24th to Sunday 30th June inclusive. For every €1 spent in the in-store bakeries next week, Lidl will be donating 20 cent to Barretstown to allow the charity to continue to rebuild the lives of thousands of children who are coping with serious illness.
All freshly baked products from Lidl’s in-store bakeries will be included in the promotion including fresh pastries, bread rolls and bread loaves. There will also be a price reduction on the freshly baked large Irish fruit scones, which will be on sale for 3 for €1. In addition, the ‘Bake-Off for Barretstown’ campaign will be supported on Twitter. For every new follow @lidl_ireland gets using the hastag #Bakeoff, Lidl will donate a further €1 to the charity.
Barretstown will provide therapeutic recreation for more than 2,500 children in 2013 alone and will shortly welcome its 25,000th camper since its foundation in 1994. Due to advances in medical treatment more than 80% of children now survive childhood cancer, but the treatment they undergo seriously affects their emotional and psychological development. The charity needs to raise €4.5 million every year to continue to provide these life changing programmes that are entirely free of charge to children and their families.
Speaking today Caitriona McCarry from Lidl said: “Barretstown is a truly magical place and everyone at Lidl is very excited to launch this three year, €1 million partnership. The tagline of our partnership is ‘Choose to be part of the magic’ and over the next three years we will have a range of fundraising initiatives and promotions in our stores across Ireland. We want to ensure that thousands of children affected by cancer and other serious illnesses will have the opportunity to take some time out and to enjoy being children again. It is very easy for customers to show their support for Barretstown by treating themselves to some freshly baked products in our in-store bakery all next week or by following us on Twitter using the hashtag #bakeoff.”
Welcoming the partnership Dee Ahearn, CEO of Barretstown said, “I’m delighted that Lidl has chosen Barretstown as its chosen charity for three years. Our mission is that every child suffering with serious illness should be able to have serious fun through our Therapeutic Recreation Programme. Barretstown needs €4.5 million a year to provide the Barretstown programme which includes top class facilities, training of hundreds of volunteers, providing medical assistance and supporting its new hospital outreach programme. Lidl’s nationwide presence, through its 130 stores in Ireland, and its considerable number of employees, 3,200, will provide a significant boost in support for Barretstown and will also help us in raising the much needed €4.5m per year .”
Barretstown recently launched its biggest ever fundraising campaign, which will run from June to September, calling on the public to ‘Be part of the magic’ and help the charity to continue to provide these life changing programmes that are entirely free of charge to children and their families.
