Camps are Paused.... but Barretstown Live Presses Play
Barretstown has made the incredibly difficult decision to cancel our traditional Spring and Summer Camp Programmes for 2020. This decision was made following input from our Childcare Advisory Committee, public health officials and other experts who have been advising Barretstown during this current crisis. Although this is very disappointing, the safety of our campers, volunteers and staff has to remain our priority.
However, we’re determined to keep the magic of Barretstown alive. That’s why we have been very busy developing and launching our new BARRETSTOWN LIVE PROGRAMME. This innovative online interactive camp experience will allow us to continue serving children living with a serious illness, like the families who were due to come to camp, exactly when they need us most.
The COVID-19 crisis means that children with a serious illness like those who come to Barretstown – who are immune-compromised – are currently more isolated and at risk than most children. That also means they need Barretstown’s therapeutic programmes now more than ever. As you know, we rely on the generosity of the public to provide 98% of the funds that make our work possible. In 2020 alone, we must raise €6.9 million.
However, the crisis is having a very significant impact on our ability to raise those funds. We have already had to cancel several key events and activities that provide crucial income.
Will you help us make up for this sudden loss of income – and help us be there for children and families who will really need us in the months ahead – by making a gift today? We understand that this is a difficult time for many Irish families – so any support you can give now will be greatly appreciated.
